1. Introduction

Support Shepherd, LLC dba Somewhere (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Typing Test application.

This notice applies specifically to Somewhere Typing Test and supplements our main Somewhere Privacy Notice, available here. If there is any conflict, this Typing Test notice controls for data processing within this application.

This policy applies to all visitors and users of our website and services, regardless of location. We comply with applicable data protection laws including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, and Switzerland, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) for California residents.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

When you use our typing test, we may collect:

  • Name and email address (if provided)
  • Typing test results and performance metrics
  • Any other information you choose to provide

2.2 Browser Analytics Data (PostHog and Microsoft Clarity)

With your consent, we use PostHog and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with our website and to debug browser-side issues. These tools may collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Mouse movements, clicks, and scroll behavior
  • Session recordings with sensitive input fields masked by default
  • Browser-side errors, logs, and performance/debugging signals
  • Device type, browser, and operating system
  • Approximate geographic location (country/region level)
  • Referring website and search terms

We configure browser analytics so PostHog capture and browser storage are disabled unless you accept analytics cookies. Rejecting analytics cookies does not disable server-side monitoring used to operate, secure, and debug the service.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Consent: Analytics data is only collected after you explicitly consent via our cookie banner.
  • Legitimate Interests: To operate a secure and reliable service, including detecting, investigating, and fixing technical issues with server-side monitoring tools.
  • Contract Performance: To provide you with the typing test service you requested.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use the collected data to:

  • Provide and maintain our typing test service
  • Analyze website usage patterns to improve functionality
  • Monitor, investigate, and fix technical issues and failures
  • Understand user behavior to enhance the user experience
  • Generate aggregated, anonymized statistics

5. Data Retention

Microsoft Clarity retains analytics data for up to 13 months. PostHog analytics, error, log, and session replay retention is managed in our PostHog workspace according to our operational needs and applicable law.

Typing test results and user-provided information are retained until you request deletion, unless we need to retain certain data for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes.

We do not currently apply an automatic time-based deletion schedule to typing test records.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

  • Microsoft Corporation: As the provider of Clarity analytics services. Microsoft processes this data in accordance with their Privacy Statement.
  • PostHog, Inc.: As the provider of product analytics, error tracking, logs, and session replay services. PostHog processes this data in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
  • Service Providers: Third parties who assist in operating our website, subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights.

7. Cookies and Browser Storage

We use a consent cookie to remember your preferences and, with your consent, to enable browser analytics. These tools may use cookies, local storage, or similar browser storage:

  • cookie-consent: Stores your analytics consent preference
  • PostHog browser storage: Stores analytics consent, anonymous device/session identifiers, feature flag cache, and session replay state after you accept analytics cookies
  • _clck: Persists the Clarity User ID and preferences
  • _clsk: Connects page views into a session

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in our footer.

If you are located in these regions, you have the right to (subject to applicable legal exceptions):

  • Access your personal data
  • Rectify inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

8.2 CCPA Rights (California Residents)

California residents have the right to (subject to applicable legal exceptions):

  • Know what personal information is collected
  • Know if personal information is sold or disclosed
  • Say no to the sale of personal information

9. Withdrawing Consent

You can withdraw your consent for analytics cookies at any time by:

  • Clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer
  • Selecting “Reject Cookies” in the settings modal
  • Clearing your browser cookies

After withdrawing consent, we will stop collecting PostHog and Microsoft Clarity analytics from your browser. However, data already collected will be retained according to our retention policy.

Withdrawing consent does not automatically disable server-side monitoring used to maintain site reliability and security.

10. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

11. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe this has occurred, please contact us and we will investigate and take appropriate action, including deletion where required.
